At the SIU Medicine Support Team for Addiction Recovery Treatment (START) clinic, we offer medications, therapy, and peer support services to help patients with addictions move forward in their recovery.
We believe this approach is best because:
Medications:
- Decrease cravings and withdrawals symptoms
- Decrease relapse rates
- Decrease pregnancy complications
- Decrease overdose related deaths
Therapy:
- Improves coping mechanisms for cravings
- Improves understanding of triggers
- Improves understanding of underlying issues that contribute to addiction
Peer:
- Increases treatment retention
- Increases patient satisfaction
- Improves social support system
- Improves relationships with treatment providers
