Your partner against dementia
The Smith Alzheimer's Center is one of only three state-designated centers in Illinois, and the only one south of I-80. From clinical care, counseling for family members, outreach programs, and research in our labs, our commitment is improving quality of life for those with dementia.
At the Smith Alzheimer's Center at SIU Medicine, we understand that memory loss disorders can pose an overwhelming set of challenges for patients, caregivers, and communities. Our dedicated team of health care clinicians is here to help you as a partner in navigating this path. From care in the clinic, outreach programs to improve quality of life and increase socialization, family counseling and clinical trials that provide innovative treatments, our team provides care beyond a regular appointment.

Engage your body and mind
Dementia changes the brain. Social isolation only deepens issues for those with memory loss. That's why the Smith Alzheimer's Center offers a wide range of programs designed to specifically engage those with dementia. Whether that is through art therapy, exercise, brain games, cooking, music or more, these programs are designed to improve the quality of life and meet those with dementia where they are.
These programs are designed with caregivers in mind as well. Whether it's providing respite, education, or social interaction, the Beyond the Medical Center programs understand the utmost importance of caregivers and addressing their needs, too.
