Rebecca Hoffman selected for ADFM LEADS Fellowship
M. Rebecca Hoffman, MD, MSPH, program director for the SIU Alton Family Medicine Residency Program, was selected as a LEADS Fellow for the 2020-21 year. The LEADS fellowship (Leadership Education for Academic Development and Success) is sponsored by the Association of Departments of Family Medicine (ADFM), the national group of family medicine department chairs and senior faculty. It is a 1-year national program designed for faculty who are exploring department chair or other senior academic family medicine roles. This fellowship provides experiential learning around the Family Medicine Department Chair Leadership Competencies (Leadership, Administration and Management, Personal Development, and External Relationships). Each fellow also completes a fellowship project throughout the year and presents this at the annual national ADFM meeting. Dr. Hoffman’s project, “Creating a culture of inquiry in a geographically dispersed Family Medicine department,” focuses on expansion of scholarly work and education in and practice of evidence-informed decision making in the SIU Department of Family and Community Medicine. The department includes five family medicine residency training programs across central and southern Illinois, as well as a physician assistant training program. Dr. Hoffman is the first from SIU School of Medicine to complete this fellowship.
