Emily Lane, LCSW

Emily Lane joined SIU School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry in 2012. Ms. Lane works with a wide variety of individuals, with special interest in working with persons living with cancer and their loved ones. She also works with individuals in the areas of chronic illness, depression, anxiety, personality disorders and grief.  Ms. Lane works alongside of Dr. Kalyan Kandra in the department’s geriatric clinic to provide the best possible educational experience for residents in that clinic, as well as their patients. Her background as an inpatient psychiatric social worker, makes her especially knowledgeable in the areas of community resources and the issues that geriatric populations face.

With regard to education within the department and the school, Ms. Lane has always looked for opportunities to improve the educational experiences of medical students, residents and faculty. Ms. Lane has served as the elective coordinator for Psychiatry’s Year Four elective offerings and sits on the Year Four Curriculum Committee for the School of Medicine. She is a very active member of the department’s Psychotherapy Training Committee and has a passion for working with residents in seminars and one-on-one supervision to improve their understanding and practice of psychotherapy.

Ms. Lane graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Illinois Springfield and then earned a master’s degree in social work from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where she also worked as graduate assistant for the chair of the Department of Social Work. She has a wide variety of clinical experience in areas such as substance abuse, disabilities, medical social work and mental health.
