Gwendolyn Scott, DNP, PMHNP-BC
About me
Gwendolyn Scott became a RN in 2008 and worked in adult acute care inpatient settings including: general medical surgical, orthopedic trauma, medical and neuro intensive care. In 2016 she became a Family Nurse Practitioner and worked in Family Medicine settings providing care for all ages. She then decided to advance her education and obtained a Doctorate of Nursing Practice as well as became dual-certified with a post-masters Psychiatric Mental Health NP certification.
Scott says in the areas she has worked, many of her patients needed care for their mental health in addition to their other physical health care needs. She is thankful and honored to be able to provide that specialized care to patients at SIU Medicine.
She provides psychiatric-mental health care to children, adolescents, and adults. The journey can be challenging and difficult for those in need of mental health care management, and she is thankful to be a part of the team providing that care.
Having a background in family medicine benefits her in meeting the care needs of her patients, as she can be mindful of the physical and mental needs of patients at the same time. Although she is not currently practicing both roles, she can still be considerate of the "whole person" when seeing patients.
