4 cases of H5N1 bird flu reported in US

There have been a total of four reported cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A (H5) virus infection in the United States. Of the four infections, one was identified in Texas, two in Michigan, and one in Colorado. The cases in Texas and Michigan involved dairy farm workers with direct exposure to infected cows. The case in Colorado involved direct exposure to poultry (culling) with presumptive infection. The CDC maintains the public health risk is low and is continuing to monitor the situation.
