Simmons Cancer Institute and Passavant Hospital Announce Partnership

A new partnership between Simmons Cancer Institute (SCI) at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville will expand area cancer patients’ access to cancer care.

Edem Agamah, MD, MS, FACP, formerly of Central Illinois Hematology Oncology Center in Springfield, has joined Simmons Cancer Institute and will see patients on Tuesdays in Jacksonville. Swati Pathak, MD, assistant professor of internal medicine at SIU School of Medicine, will begin seeing patients on Mondays in November at Passavant. Pathak is also a member of Simmons Cancer Institute.

“We are very happy to be working together with Passavant to continue and expand services for cancer patients in the area,” said Aziz Khan, MD, executive director of SCI and chief of hematology/oncology at the School of Medicine.

“Passavant is excited to have access to the physicians and staff at Simmons Cancer Institute through this partnership,” said Stephen Lee, physician services officer at Passavant.
Agamah joined SIU as an associate professor of hematology and oncology. He is board certified in general internal medicine and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Physicians, American Society of Hematology, American College of Physician Executives, Christian Medical and Dental Society, American Medical Association, Illinois State Medical Society and Sangamon County Medical Society.

Pathak is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (2011), and board certified in hematology and oncology (2014). She is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
