SIU Med School Welcomes Geriatric Specialist

Dae Hyoun (David) Jeong, MD

Aug. 31, 2016 - Southern Illinois University School of Medicine resident and fellow alumnus Dae Hyoun (David) Jeong, MD, has rejoined the SIU School of Medicine faculty as an assistant professor of family and community medicine. He is also the director of geriatric sports and musculoskeletal medicine and the assistant director of geriatric medicine and palliative care. Geriatricians are specially trained to meet the unique health care needs of older adults. Jeong is a member of SIU Center for Family Medicine in Springfield.

Before joining the SIU Center for Family Medicine, he completed an ultrasound sabbatical fellowship at UC Irvine medical center in Orange, a geriatrics fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and a sports medicine fellowship at SIU Center for Family Medicine - Quincy (2016, 2016, 2015). Jeong completed a family medicine residency at SIU Center for Family Medicine - Springfield (2014). After he earned his medical degree at Chonnam National University in Gwangju, Korea (2009), he worked as a primary care geriatrician in Korea.

Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Jeong is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Illinois Academy of Family Practice, the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Geriatric Society, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the Society of Ultrasound in Medical Education and the American Academy of Family Medicine. His interests include sports and musculoskeletal care, point-of-care ultrasound, geriatrics and exercise prescriptions for older adults.
