Mitral Valve Disease

    Overview

Mitral valve disease is a failure of the heart's mitral valve to open and close properly, causing a backflow of blood into the heart. Symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, lightheadedness, and a rapid, fluttering heartbeat. More severe cases may require medications, such as diuretics and blood thinners, or surgery.
