Premature ovarian failure refers to a loss of normal function of your ovaries, generally defined as regular release of eggs and estrogen production, before age 40. Symptoms include irregular periods, hot flashes, irritability, and infertility. Treatment includes hormone therapy and supplements to help prevent osteoporosis.
