Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
Overview
Skin and soft tissue infections include cellulitis, abscesses, boils and carbuncles. They are typified by redness, soreness and the growth of pus in an opening of the skin. Most infections are secondary in nature, occurring in an area that has been compromised either by injury, such as a cut or wound, or medical treatment, such as radiation therapy. Treatment includes antibiotics and treatment of the underlying issue.
