Virtual care through telehealth

Scheduled for a virtual visit? Set up your home technology for a successful visit and learn what to expect:

• Sound: Check that there are no issues that could affect your sound, like fans, open windows or excess wind, or your ability to hear your provider.
• Privacy: Be sure you are in a private quiet space at home, where others can’t hear the conversation between you and your provider. This will also allow for your provider to hear you clearly. 

It is very important that you complete these steps before the scheduled date and time of your appointment in case you experience any technical difficulties. SIU Medicine currently uses a platform called Teladoc to conduct video chats with your provider. These steps will help you get set up on this system.

If you will be attending your appointment from a cell phone:

(Note: Your cell phone must have a working camera)   
Using your cell phone:

1. Click on the link that you've received via text or email (If you have not recvived a link before your meeting, please reach out to your providers office.)
2. If you get a pop up that’s asks to allow camera and microphone use, press allow.
3. Fill out any pre-visit forms that show up during the check in process
4. Once you are finished filling out pre-visit forms you will be inserted into a virtual queue.
5. Wait for your doctor to connect and complete the visit

If you will be attending your appointment from a computer:

1. Go to your email and locate your meeting link. If you have not received a link before your meeting, please reach out to your provider's office
2. Click on the link in the email and it should take you to a new tab.
3. If you get a pop up that’s asks to allow camera and microphone use, press allows.
4. Fill out any pre-visit forms that show up during the check-in process
5. Once you are finished filling out pre-visit forms you will be inserted into a virtual queue.
6. Wait for your doctor to connect and complete the visit.
7. While waiting for the provider, do not close out of the browser, do not leave the visit, please wait on the virtual queue screen until the provider has connected.
