Elective Procedures Resume May 11

May 8, 2020 Beginning May 11, the Governor’s “Restore Illinois” plan allows elective procedures and surgeries to once again be performed. SIU Medicine providers will be performing procedures and surgeries at a variety of hospitals. Each hospital has slightly different restrictions, processes and prioritization criteria. Patients will be tested for COVID-19 prior to surgery to ensure the safety of the patient and the medical team. Each hospital will work with you to coordinate the required testing prior to your surgery or procedure. Emergent surgeries will be done without testing as we are

SIU School of Medicine Class of 2020 student Jennifer Becker has been selected to receive a prestigious 2020 Excellence in Public Health Award from the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Physician Professional Advisory Committee. Family physicians in several Illinois communities are hosting students from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine throughout September. The students are participating in the school’s Family Medicine Preceptorship Program. The experience provides an opportunity for students to use their medical knowledge in a clinic setting under the supervision of an experienced physician. The students choose from more than 160 family practice physicians in Illinois for their preceptorship experience. They will graduate from medical school in May 2022, then pursue advanced training in a specific area
