SIU Medicine will continue COVID-19 testing for the Springfield community in December. All SIU Medicine COVID-19 testing sites are closed December 23 – January 3 for the holidays. Testing resumes on January 4, 2021. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, the testing operation will be hosted by Abundant Faith Christian Center located at 2525 Taylor Ave. All participants should be in line before 3 p.m. to ensure same day testing. In May 2018, the Patient Access Collaborative, formerly the Patient Access Symposium, recognized SIU Medicine with the award "Best Practice in Patient Access for Referral Management." The Patient Access Collaborative, founded in 2011, provides a forum for large academic health systems to discuss solutions, disseminate ideas and collaborate as a collective group to improve patient access in a complex ambulatory enterprise. The collaborative also invited SIU Medicine to become a member of an elite group of health care organizations, including UC Davis Health System, Duke Medicine, Keck Medicine
Community activist, local school board member and SIU Medicine deputy director Erica Austin will model at this year's New York Fashion Week in September at the (R)Evolution fashion show. Austin, who recently underwent breast cancer surgery, will walk the runway for Dana Donofree, a breast cancer survivor and the designer and founder of AnaOno, an international intimates clothing line for women with breast cancer.
SIU School of Medicine will be closing its COVID-19 testing operation on March 30 as planned with the Sangamon County Department of Public Health (SCDPH). During the past 8 months, SIU conducted more than 38,000 tests of area residents, resulting in 35,093 negative findings and 2,359 positives, with a monthly average of 200 tests for children under 18. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the County to provide this critical community service in a time of crisis.
