Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a common health condition affecting around 6.5 million people older than 40 in the United States. It develops when arteries in the limbs become narrowed or blocked, which is usually due to a build-up of fatty, cholesterol plaque deposits inside the arteries. This prevents blood from flowing properly and can cause tissue damage in affected limbs. PAD most often affects arteries in the legs. For the majority of people, PAD does not cause any symptoms. SIU Center for Family Medicine stands by TriCare members through contract negotiations

We are honored that so many members of the military have chosen SIU Medicine as their provider of choice. We are also aware that many of our military families are covered by TriCare insurance. Unfortunately, TriCare made the decision to end its contract with our Federally Qualified Health Center, including the SIU Center for Family Medicine and Division of General Internal Medicine, earlier this year. Specific plans affected include TriCare Select and TriCare Prime. Recognizing how important it is for our patients to continue being able to see their family medicine doctors, we are diligently

Governor JB Pritzker and state and local officials celebrated the launch of a new Behavioral Health Workforce Center that will increase Illinois’ capacity to recruit, educate, and retain behavioral health professionals. The Center will be based at SIU School of Medicine.
