Symptoms of Amyloidosis depend on the type of amyloid and the organs affected. AL amyloidosis commonly affects the kidney, and heart gastrointestinal tract, while ATTR amyloidosis affects the heart, nerves and joints. Common Types of Cardiac Amyloidosis

There are over 30 proteins that can cause amyloidosis. However, two of them commonly impact the heart causing amyloid heart disease. 1. Amyloidosis is a term used for a group of diseases that are caused by deposition of abnormal proteins called amyloids. The human body has many proteins which perform various functions but, in some situations, these proteins become abnormal, loose their function, and stick to each other forming long bulky fibers. Children throughout Springfield and surrounding communities are receiving extended medical care, and their families often need extra help paying for lodging, food or transportation. SIU Medicine is inviting all golfers to form teams to help these children facing life-altering diseases through the On Par for Pediatrics charity golf outing.
